About

Senior C++ / 3D Geometry Engineer with 10+ years of experience building large-scale 3D and geometry-processing systems, from research and algorithms to production.

MSc in Applied Mathematics and PhD in Informatics, with expertise spanning computational geometry, large-scale point-cloud processing, LiDAR, mesh processing, shape reconstruction, shape simplification, geometry kernels, and 3D AI. Experienced across research, open source, startups, and large-scale technology products.

My Story

My journey towards geometry processing started in 2012 when I enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the faculty of Informatics at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland under mentorship of Kai Hormann. My primary focus revolved around 2D generalized barycentric coordinates and their applications to geometry processing, mostly within the 2D domain. In 2017, I relocated to Nice, France, and sustained my academic pursuits under mentorship of Pierre Alliez in the Titane team of the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (Inria) by delving into the field of 3D urban reconstruction from large-scale point clouds, encompassing various levels of detail (LODs).

During this period, a shift in perspective led me to lean more towards practical industrial applications as opposed to purely theoretical research. This interest encouraged me to explore open source. Joining GeometryFactory in 2019, I dedicated myself to contributing to the Computational Geometry Algorithms Library (CGAL) — a preeminent collection of geometric algorithms and data structures. Over the course of almost three years, I played a pivotal role in enhancing the library, delivering several packages, and implementing numerous smaller features. I also served as a mentor for several projects being part of the Google Summer of Code (GSoC).

In 2021, I was invited to join the 3D map team in Zenly (owned by Snap Inc.) and subsequently relocated to Paris. Together, we engineered an exceptional 3D map engine for our social application until circumstances led to the closure of the company. That was the time to move forward and I switched the field again. This time, I joined an awesome team at Samp (now acquired by Aize), a promising deep-tech startup focusing on providing as-built 3D digital twin solutions for large industrial facilities using a smart combination of AI and geometry processing algorithms. Two years after in 2024, I was promoted to become a Geometry Lead at Samp being in charge of several junior and middle-level geometry engineers.
